These days many people are looking at ways of how to work from home or become a 'digital nomad'.

To be able to do this you need a reliable source of money, that you can earn from anywhere in the world.

Teaching English by Skype is one way that a lot of people manage to live an independent life, free from the restraints of going to an office.

What is it like to teach English by Skype?

Teaching English by Skype can be both a positive and negative experience. On the plus side you can usually choose which hours you work, you can work from anywhere in the world, and you can take holidays whenever your want. If however you value work benefits, paid holidays and set work loads then this job might not be for you. The main benefits of teaching online is the flexibility it allows.

Online students tend to mostly be adults, but many Chinese schools now offer English lessons to children. Some of the Chinese schools offer great rewards, and usually pay more. However they often require you to be somewhat over-enthusiastic for each lesson. They understandably want you to have high energy levels and for some people this is no problem, but for other people having to dance around and be essentially a children's entertainer is not for them.

A good option for teaching online is for a smaller school, where there is a more relaxed atmosphere. One good example for English lessons by skype is ENGLISH-SKYPE-LESSON.COM. They provide teachers flexible working hours and pay that starts at 9 Euros per hour. They offer mostly business professionals lessons but also a mix of some general English and exam preparation.

Another school for French students to learn english by Skype (apprendre l'anglais par skype) is PhoneboxLanguage.fr. If you are a teacher who would like to work in France this school might be perfect for you. Many of the students are French or come from French speaking countries. If you have some French language skills this might well help you in your application. Again they offer flexible working conditions, so if you are working from a remote area, then this could be a great school for you.

What ever your intention with teaching, online lessons can be a great way to work abroad, to become your own boss and to live a flexible work life from home.
